Dear Friends,

You never know which investments will produce the greatest returns. One of my best investments was made on the number 727 bus commuting to my job as a graduate accountant in the 80s in Adelaide.

I’d while away the journey reading handwritten memory cards. I had about 200 cards on which I’d written passages from the Bible. I read them like I was cramming for one of my uni exams. There were times it was a bit boring, and I wondered if it was worth it, if I should just disappear into a book.

A few mornings ago, 35 years later, while I was journaling and stilling my mind to listen for God, I recalled three of those memory cards, pretty much word for word.  This isn’t the first time it’s happened. Many times over the last 35 years I’ve recalled one of those memory card scriptures. In good times and bad, they were exactly what I needed to hear – ‘a word in season’.

I am so grateful I made that investment 35 years ago, one that continues to produce a return beyond any measure. What about you? What ‘non-financial’ investment have you made in your life that continues to pay dividends? I would love to hear. Just hit reply to share.

Believe me, I’ve made some bad investments in my time. But that investment of time and intentionality on the 727 bus all those years ago wasn’t one of them. Here’s one of the scriptures I committed to memory, which reminds us to ground ourselves and fix our minds on truth and what is right:

‘Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.’

Psalm 1:1-3

I hope this encourages you today.

Every blessing,
